Mountain Restaurants

There are more than 20 mountain restaurants on the pistes and at the base of the runs down by the village. Most are small to medium-sized family-run establishments with home cooking using locally sourced ingredients. One of the easiest to reach is Le Schuss within the slopeside Hotel Le Schuss (+33 (0)4 50 73 24 53; at the base of the Linga piste which runs a buffet style lunch - perfect if you want to minimise your time off the slopes. La Ferme des Pistes (+33 (0)4 50 81 35 81) on the slopes above has lots of character.

Restaurants in Town

There are around 60 places to choose from to eat, including hotel restaurants, in and around the village. Almost all of these serve traditional Savoyard cuisine as well as international dishes, with the inevitable selection of Italian establishments too. The atmospheric Le Vieux Four (+33 (0)4 50 73 30 56) is generally regarded as one of the best in resort. For pizza try Chez Fred's (+33 (0)4 50 73 37 97), Le Fiacre (+33 (0)4 50 73 30 46) or Hors Piste (+33 (0)4 50 73 79 87)(among several others) and good creperies include Le Génépi (+33 (0)4 50 73 37 32) and La Galettière (+33 (0)4 50 73 24 99).

Grocery Shops

As you would expect in a village that makes much of its farming roots and traditional values, Châtel is well provided for with several local butchers, bakers and other food stores, including regional speciale lists such as La Cave à sosse (+33 (0)4 50 73 36 56, Délices de Châtel (+33 (0)4 50 73 29 96) and Grenier de Châtel (+33 (0)4 50 73 39 84  There's also a dedicated wine and spirits specialist store. The march of the supermarkets cannot be contained however and there's a well-stocked Sherpa (+33 (0)4 50 73 21 54); store there too. There's also a traditional market staged every Wednesday.
