Nestled right in the middle of the world’s largest ski area, Meribel is one of the best located and liveliest ski resorts in the French Alps. Situated just 10km from Moutiers and about an hour from Chambery, there are no shortage of transfer links available. As with many of its neighbouring resorts of the Tarentaise Valley there are numerous airports to choose from, as well easy rail access from Moutiers. Chambery and Geneva are probably the most convenient airports for travel to Meribel.

Taking the train is not hugely convenient involving two rail changes and a taxi ride from Moutiers to Meribel.
Lyon Airport - 180 km / approx 2 hours

By Train
The snow train, run by eurostar, operate a direct service from London St Pancras to Moutiers where you can get a taxi straight up to Meribel.
The evening service, leaves on Friday and travels through the night, arriving in Moutiers in the morning the following day. The great thing with this service is that you’ll squeeze in almost a full days skiing whilst everyone else is still travelling to resort on quietest day of the week, changeover day!
For those that prefer not to travel by night, the day time service arrives in Moutiers in late afternoon on Saturday. Book your tickets for the snow train at the Eurostar website.
If weekend travel is not an option for you there are daily services from London. This requires a change of station in Paris from Gare du Nord to Paris Austerlitz, to the direct TGV domestic train service that arrives in Moutiers later in the afternoon. Timetables and tickets can be arranged in advance from Rail Europe.
Self-Drive
It is possible to drive to Meribel so long as you don’t mind a full day of driving. The journey takes between 7 and 10 hours from Calais depending on the weather, traffic, and driving style. It might be worth checking the weather forecast as this may impact your route, and sometimes, if you know it’s going to be really cold (probably between late December and February), you may want to top your radiator coolant with a heavier mix to avoid it freezing, and take a set of snow chains no matter what the forecast says. When the conditions are particularly bad the police sometimes restrict access to resort to only those with snow chains and/or snow tires.
On arrival, covered car parks are plentiful, available at Le Rond-Point, Les Ravines, Les Rhodos, and Mottaret le Chatalet. The maximum stay is 8 days and costs about €3 for 12 hours, alternately you can pay €43 for the whole week.
