Valfrejus Mountain Restaurants

There are three on-mountain restaurants in Valfrejus and most of the other half-dozen or so places in the resort itself can also be reached quite easily on skis and are open at lunchtime.

The main on-mountain dining area in on the Arrondaz pleateau at 2200m where there are great views across the valley towards the national park. Here La Bergerie is a self-service option with a huge terrace and separate bar. The Gourmandise (+33 (0)6 08 48 23 52) at the top of the Col chairlift has a snack bar and a terrace too. The third option is The Punta Bagna (+33 (0)6 60 46 14 69) right at the top of the ski area at 2737m. This offers self-service, snack bars and also has a terrace from which there are wonderful views.

Restaurants in Town

There’s a restaurant for every day of the week in Valfréjus, but if you plan to stay eight days or more, you’ll need to go to somewhere twice – so in other words, an adequate but not excessive choice!

As you’re close to Italy, the pizza is usually good at La Cordée, (+33 (0)4 79 05 22 39) which has a terrace that’s popular in good weather and is one of the larger establishments in resort, able to seat up to 100. The Bardonecchia (+33 (0)4 79 05 08 13) also pays homage to Valfréjus’ near neighbour, the famous Italian ski resort just on the other side of the Frejus tunnel.

Remembering you’re still on the French side of the border though, for local cuisine you can get a simple crepe at the Gourmand (+33 (0)4 79 05 24 81) or something a little more substantial at Les Tavernes (+33 (0)4 79 64 02 37) or at Manger (+33 (0)4 79 05 28 40) or Piccolina (+33 (0)4 79 05 20 05).

Grocery Shops

Valfréjus has a bakery, La Valoiserie (+4 (0)79 05 19 89), a deli selling regional produce and other specialities, Alpine Delights (+33 (0)4 79 20 32 71) and a small Sherpa supermarket (+33 (0)4 79 05 30 06) which contains butchery and delicatessen sections.

There are larger Casino (+33 (0)4 79 05 39 70) and Sherpa (+33 (0)4 79 05 22 54) supermarkets in Modane, 10 minutes' drive away.
