As with almost all other ski resorts in the Tarrentaise Valley, travel to La Plagne is fairly straight forward, based simply on the number of travel options available. There are four airports within striking distance, and its location close to Aime makes it a decent option for the snowtrain too. If coming in by bus though, you’ll need to keep your wits about you, as you don’t want to end up getting of the bus at the wrong base area, and with your accommodation being in one of ten bases, it is an easy mistake to make.

Car Rental

If you require a hire car for your ski holiday, there are a number of fantastic car rental companies based in Europe.

By Train

With its proximity to Aime, La Plagne is fantastically convenient for the train. The Eurostar operated snow train with an overnight service leaving London each Friday and a day time service leaving London each Saturday all travel directly to Aime, which is only 18km away. A quick taxi will then take you directly to your hotel. The bonus of the overnight service is that you will get almost a full additional day skiing each side of your stay. Tickets can be bought from the Eurostar website.

If you prefer to travel midweek, this can also be done providing you don’t mind changing in Paris from Gare du Nord to Paris Austerlitz. The direct TGV will take you directly to Aime with an arrival time later that afternoon. Tickets can be booked at Rail Europe.

Self-Drive

If you’re happy to set aside a day for the drive to La Plagne it can certainly be done, and if going self-catering it’s not a bad idea as you’ll be able to stock up on cheap food from the valley floor. The journey from Calais can be around the 7 hour mark if the roads are clear, but it can easily take up to 10. If driving during the French holidays in February, traffic can be very, very slow going around Albertville and Moutiers. For directions we recommend ViaMichelin.

All of the bases with the exception of Belle Plagne have large, free outdoor parking areas. If you’d prefer to have your car in a covered car park, you can find spaces at Plagne 1800, Plagne Centre, Aime La Plagne, Plagne Soleil, Plagne Villages and Belle Plagne.
